advertising and social responsibility

R: Ads have one and only one purpose: To sell.
D: That is OK.

R: But what about ethics and social responsibility of corporations that buy and air the ads?
D: What about it?

R: Is it OK to trick your potential consumers minds?

D: What?Who does that?

R: Your everyday drug company ads. They show you distracting visuals and play uplifting music while stating side effects that will never cause a sane person to buy the product.
Thus, confusing your brain, to not register what normally would be registered.

D: Yes, I have to agree that it is wrong. I wonder why the regulating body doesn't step in and say they can't do that.

R: I wonder too.
